Our Review
The Platinum Delta SkyMiles Credit Card from AMEX is better than the Gold version for two primary reasons. 1) you get a free companion ticket every year that you can really use (on any L/U/T fare basis flight which is the lowest three fare tiers) and 2) You can earn up to 20,000 MQMs (Medallion Qualification Miles) every year just by spending $50,000. That's a lot of MQMs without stepping foot on a plane. In fact, you'd only need to actually fly 5,000 miles during the year to earn or maintain Delta's Silver Medallion status (which is also SkyTeam elite for benefits on any flight operated by a SkyTeam affiliated airline) if you hit the $50,000 in spend yearly.
So, if you don't care about Medallion Status and just want to earn Delta miles, stick to the
Gold Delta SkyMiles credit card for a lower annual fee. But if you want to earn MQMs without flying, and don't need the additional benefits of the
Delta Reserve credit card, then this is your best bet.
